…difficult simultaneous left hand finger motion that one must drill and learn. I suppose they could include such drills in the app. My favorite source of pain for both left and right hand training is "Pumping Nylon" by Scott Tennant. Most who know the subject would probably agree. Reading written music is, in my opinion, very important and --I'll venture that far-- the only way to go. Tab is cool, but why go…
…metronome (super important) I could simply ask them to learn and practice the scale on page 42 and that was that. On the guitar, Scott Tennant communicated his practice exercises to the worth through "Pumping Nylon". It's easy to say "Yeah, but I can just listen to someone playing the scale and copy it by ear". Well, that's missing the point. None of this material would have survived decades or centuries if it…
…code to the Brandenburg Concerto and Mozart's Requiem. Back on guitar, I like just about anything recorded by Segovia, Romeros, LA Guitar Quartet (I studied briefly under a disciple of the guy who wrote Pumping Nylon), John Williams (not the Star Wars guy, just in case), Paco de Lucia, Piazzolla (not guitar but often accompanied by strings and interesting), Strunz & Farah can be interesting (sometimes formulaic).…
I was also looping in the issue of being able to glide across the fret board with ease. This takes time and lots of practice. There's a reason why books like Pumping Nylon exist. It takes a lot of work to stop thinking about "where and how the f&%$ am I going to do that!" to having your mind free enough to improvise. In other words, to think about music rather than mechanics.
