……那种成天说“要快乐”或者“只要做了 X 你就会快乐”的文化。我看到文章提到了《查普曼的白昼之魔》（Noonday Demon）。我没读过那本，但有一本引用了它、我个人觉得是抑郁症题材经典的佳作是《林肯的忧郁》（Lincoln's Melancholy）。无论是他有多么痛苦，还是他正因为或不顾这种痛苦而把自己逼得多狠，都令人赞叹。我认为不了解……你就不可能真正懂得林肯、南北战争，或者他对美国的影响。
