His writing is pretty bad in the original Foundation trilogy, but it was his early work. He got a lot better later on. Have you read Stephen King's first novel, Carrie? The writing is awful. …this story is a watered-down version of the real story. If you don't want to dedicate the time to reading On Writing, King also references this story nicely in the introduction to most recent versions of Carrie.

斯蒂芬·金绝对有机会青史留名，倒不一定是因为他的写作技巧，而是因为他塑造的那些难忘角色。《魔女嘉莉》、《小丑回魂》、《克丽斯汀》、《危情十日》里的安妮·韦克斯，还有《闪灵》里的杰克·托兰斯，随便数数就一堆。当然了，电影绝对有助于延长他的名气。
Stephen King definitely has a chance, not particularly for his craft, but his memorable characters. Carrie, It, Christine, Annie Wilkes, and Jack Torrance to name a few. Granted, movies will definitely help his longevity.
