I've been recently trying to make my way though Elements of Programming (https://www.amazon.com/Elements-Programming-Alexander-Stepan...) by Alexander Stepanov and Paul McJones and it makes me say abstract algebra. It's the first and only rigorous foundation of software engineering…
Surprised Tufte's books aren't on the second list. I see programmers referring to Tufte but I doubt many have read his books. I recommend them. I nominate Stepanov's Elements of Programming to the second list. Beautiful, dense, and a perpetual shelf ornament. Stepanov's papers, especially the one that launched the STL, Fundamentals of Generic Programming (with James Dehnert) is a masterpiece.…
There's this book that I've been mentioning around here called Elements of Programming https://www.amazon.com/Elements-Programming-Alexander-Stepan... that makes exactly this claim, that we are writing too much code. It proposes how to write C++-ish (it's an extremely minimal subset of…
# 《编程原本》(Elements of Programming)https://www.amazon.com/Elements-Programming-Alexander-Stepan... Sean Parent
I'll give you a couple. Note that some of these are rehashes of my earlier comments. # Elements of Programming https://www.amazon.com/Elements-Programming-Alexander-Stepan... This book proposes how to write C++-ish code in a mathematical way that makes all your code terse. In this talk, Sean Parent, at that…
…modern C reference that is the successor to K&R (which doesn't seem to exist). Skiena instead of CLR? Hmmmm . . . not sure I'll agree with that. You might want to consider having a look at the Stepanov Elements of Programming book. I think there is a chance it could be a good follow-up for hackers interested in moving from Hanson's elegant looking code to a nice, minimal C++. I lack enough applied C/C++ experience for this…
…figures of speech etc. because he is too dumb to use them properly. There are poets and there are mba-style bullshit writers. Great C++ code can read as beautifully as poems in style and elegance (c.f. Elements of Programming by Stepanov).
