……错过了三部曲的核心（还毁掉了一些很棒的角色）。读起来很费劲，但前传《精灵宝钻》也许是现代唯一一部成功的史诗神话。C. S. Lewis 的《裸颜》（Till We Have Faces）是对丘比特与普绪克神话的一次出色改编，从普绪克姐姐的视角来讲。我很喜欢 Spider Robinson 的 Variable Star，那是根据 Robert Heinlein 未完成的大纲写成的。
…missed the trilogy's heart (and ruined some great characters). It's dense reading, but the prequel The Silmarillion is perhaps the only successful epic mythology written in modern times. C. S. Lewis' "Till We Have Faces" is a remarkable adaptation of the Cupid and Psyche myth, from the perspective of Psyche's sister. I loved Spider Robinson's Variable Star, based on an unfinished outline by Robert Heinlein.

Only in recent years have I appreciated how familiarity with such material so enriches my experience of other, later literature. To use this example, the title of C.S. Lewis’s Till We Have Faces and its eponymous sentence (paraphrased): How can we know the gods face to face, till we have faces?
