…the possibility of somebody actually walking backwards.) > "Or maybe multi-lane, variable speed walking escalators, but I guess those are sci-fi... " I've badly wanted to try that ever since I read Caves of Steel. It sounds terrifying but exhilarating.
《钢穴》(The Caves of Steel)、《裸阳》(The Naked Sun)、《曙光中的机器人》(Robots of Dawn)、《机器人与帝国》(Robots and Empire)。
It's not the "I, Robot" books, it's the quadrilogy sometimes called the "Robot" series (confusing, I know). "The Caves of Steel", "The Naked Sun", "Robots of Dawn", "Robots and Empire". These are without a doubt my favourite of Asimov's books :) Earth has evolved to a point where the population lives in Cities (capitalisation…
…1969, but Asimov's typewriter just kept going. He eventually published a two-volume autobiography (about 1500 pages!), and then a condensed version called I, Asimov. He also published SF mystery novels (Caves of Steel, et al.), and straight-up mystery short stories (collected in the Black Widowers stories), which are quite enjoyable.
Asimov in "The Caves of Steel"; Earth has a huge population that lives in huge cities, therefore it needs powerful computers as it has to track/police its massive population. Asimov guessed in 1953 that computers are a surveillance…
如果这合你的胃口,可以去读读《钢穴》(Caves of Steel)、《裸阳》(The Naked Sun)和《曙光中的机器人》(Robots of Dawn)。
…intelligence? Give Philip K Dick's "Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep?" a whirl if you're interested in the implications. Isaac Asimov also spent a lot of time writing about robotic intelligence. Hit up Caves of Steel, The Naked Sun and Robots of Dawn if this floats your boat.
…because they are indeed short, and while not all of them are good, a number of them fill me with the same sort of wonder I get from reading the first Foundation book. If you're on an Asimov kick, The Caves of Steel is also pretty good, and has a Foundation-style twist at the end.
