If you're looking for something non-dsytopian, John Carmack had a recommendation recently https://twitter.com/ID_AA_Carmack/status/1757428929088872801 > Just finished Theft of Fire by @Devon_Eriksen_, and it was a great read — hard SF by a retired engineer. If his About page resonates at all, you will probably enjoy it: https://devoneriksen.com/about
…post from a guy called Devon Eriksen on the topic of socialized healthcare and free markets. [https://x.com/Devon_Eriksen_/status/1865932424376377833] PS: Devon wrote a great debut Sci Fi novel called "Theft Of Fire" (Orbital Space #1). It's a great read, with endorsements from John Carmack, "Uncle" Bob Martin and ESR, among others.
我最近读到的例子包括 Travis Corcoran 的《The Powers of Earth》[1] 和 Devon Eriksen 的《Theft of Fire》。 1. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Powers_of_the_Earth
The Martian is an outlier in its success, but it's far from the only instance of successful self-published sci-fi. Recent examples I've read include The Powers of Earth[1] by Travis Corcoran and Theft of Fire by Devon Eriksen. In both cases, the authors quit their day jobs (I think both worked in software) and are now full time writers. 1. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Powers_of_the_Earth
