……《个人电脑的诞生》(The Making of the Personal Computer);《高风险,绝不妥协》(High Stakes, No Prisoners)——由 FrontPage 创始人撰写的互联网诞生史,书中对网景(Netscape)的历史进行了犀利的批判——查尔斯·弗格森(Charles Ferguson);《电脑战国策》(Computer Wars)——回顾 IBM 在90年代初的衰落——查尔斯·弗格森;《天才谷:硅谷未经删减的历史》(Valley of Genius)——关于80和90年代硅谷的口述历史。
…The Making of the Personal Computer High Stakes, No Prisoners - history of the birth of the Internet written by the founder of FrontPage, with a keen critique of Netscape's history - Charles Ferguson Computer Wars - a look at the decline of IBM by the early 90s - Charles Ferguson Valley of Genius: The Uncensored History of Silicon Valley - An oral history of the Valley in the 80s and 90s.
我会把它和《新机器的灵魂》(The Soul of a New Machine)、弗格森的《电脑战国策》(Computer Wars)以及拉普斯利的《电话大劫案》(Exploding the Phone)并列为最顶级的叙事类科技书籍。
The book is pretty great. I'll put it with "The soul of a new machine", Ferguson's "Computer Wars" and Lapsley's "Exploding the phone" as top narrative tech books.
I highly recommend Charles Ferguson's "Computer Wars" on this topic, as well as his other book (about startups and the early Web), "High Stakes, No Prisoners."
Check out Computer Wars by Ferguson for probably a better version of that. The Ferguson book sent me down a lot of historical rabbit holes that didn't have wikipedia pages yet and I had to pull up things on like newspapers.com…
去读读1993年查尔斯·H·弗格森(Charles H. Ferguson)写的《电脑战国策:西方如何在后IBM时代胜出》(Computer Wars: How the West Can Win in a Post-IBM World)。

I agree. Those emails/PDFs released in the DOJ case very enlightening and proved a lot of what Charles Ferguson was talking about in his books, "Computer Wars", "High Stakes, No Prisoners". MSFT was even afraid of AOL, Oracle, and others teaming up to offer a home appliance (eg. a net PC) at low prices and undercutting the PC industry. Of course, those partnerships…
