…honestly, letting the structure reflect the construction and not just continuing a deception by putting a non-structural greek facade on everything. For a good peek into the modernist mindset, I recommend Towards a New Architecture (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Toward_an_Architecture) by Le Corbusier. As a contrast, I recommend the post-modernist view in Complexity and Contradiction in Architecture by Robert Venturi (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Robert_Venturi).…

I can't find any online searchable text of his great polemic, "Towards a New Architecture" -- but basically if you read that it's pretty clear: he hated people. Individual humans are fine and should have their needs efficiently catered to, but humans, en masse, are a repugnant horror that…

…previous architecture was obsolete. With the nostalgic and excessive neoclassical style of the beaux-arts dominating the 19th C. it wouldn't've been hard to get that impression. He was not alone in that conception. He wasn't even the first of…
Hated him in architecture school. Was assigned the incomprehensible Towards a New Architecture as a first year. Had an argument w/ my professor over The Modular, his 'based on human' measuring system. It's a failure if you present a new system of measurement, but then concede that it doesn't work…
