James Clavell's underappreciated first novel King Rat, based on his own experiences as a WW2 POW at Changi, gives a nice if occasionally horrifying view into how the camp economy worked.
I think "King Rat" might also be part of James Clavell's series. Even if it isn't, you should like it if you like the others
Read that years ago. Some good lessons in it. Another one on similar lines is Taipan by James Clavell. Also King Rat by Clavell.
Clavell's whole Asian Saga (Shogun, Tai-Pan, Gai-Jin, King Rat, Noble House, and Whirlwind) is amazing. My favorite is Tai-Pan - the book had a tremendous impact on me, and I'd imagine it would appeal to every real entrepreneur. The underlying themes are freedom,…
James Clavell's fictional account based on his experiences in a Japanese prison camp is wonderful read too, 'King Rat'. I talked with my grandfather often about his service as a submariner in the pacific, brutal, but oddly he never hated the Japanese. He saved that for the French.
排名不分先后，我今年（到目前为止）读过的最好的书有： Brandon Sanderson 的《无名之子》（Children of the Nameless） Anthony Everitt 的《奥古斯都：罗马首位皇帝的生平》（Augustus: The Life of Rome's First Emperor） James Clavell 的《鼠王》（King Rat） Charles C. Mann 的《1493：哥伦布创造的新世界》（1493: Uncovering the New World Columbus Created） Robert C. Martin 的《代码整洁之道》（Clean Code: A Handbook of Agile Software Craftsmanship） Michael Moorcock 的《埃尔瑞克传奇 第一部》（The Elric Saga Part 1）
