Another seminal book for me, was Web Pages That Suck. They actually used to throw shade on Creating Killer Web Sites. Lots of big egos, back then. I learned quite a bit from that book. I think Flanders may still have a site. I was on his mailing list, but I haven’t heard anything for the last decade or so.
I still have a physical copy of, "Creating Killer Web Sites." That era of web dev was hacky and super fun.
I remember when David Siegel's Creating Killer Web Sites came out. It was the bomb. Full of lots of ideas and techniques for creating busy, complex, taken-straight-from-print Web pages that take forever to load. Of course, I didn't quite see it that way…
Probably coincidental but the fish iconography reminded me immediately of David Siegel's "Creating Killer Web Sites" "follow the fish" navigation: http://www.killersites.com/killerSites/core.html
…block elements react to the context, and tables react to the content. Nowadays, the block model has matured enough to moot the point, but back then, it was the best way to have content that reflowed. "Creating Killer Web Sites." That brings back memories... A lot of folks hated that book.
