…fact, selling oneself into slavery was a popular route to becoming a Roman citizen. If you don't want to read a history book, for which I wouldn't blame you, you might nevertheless enjoy Robert Harris's Cicero trilogy, which gives a fairly accurate impression of Roman society (or so claim many reviewers more competent than me). It's a truly amazing period of human history, when life was so modern in some ways, and…
1.《Imperium》/《Conspirata》/《Dictator》[西塞罗三部曲（Cicero Trilogy）] - Robert Harris（封神） 2.《The Fear Index》- Robert Harris（不错） 3.《1776》- David McCullough（不错） 4.《Sharpe's Eagle》- Bernard Cornwell（不错） 5.《Star Wars: Thrawn》- Timothy Zahn（还行，如果……
1. Imperium/Conspirata/Dictator [Cicero Trilogy] - Robert Harris (excellent) 2. The Fear Index - Robert Harris (good) 3. 1776 - David McCullough (good) 4. Sharpe's Eagle - Bernard Cornwell (good) 5. Star Wars: Thrawn - Timothy Zahn (okay, fun if…
I found the Cicero Trilogy (Imperium, Lustrum, Dictator) by Robert Harris very enjoyable. They are novels, not 'history books', but well researched and told.
I thoroughly recommend the Cicero trilogy (Imperium, Lustrum, Dictator) by Robert Harris (https://www.amazon.com/Cicero-Trilogy-Robert-Harris-Collecti...) for a fictionalized, but thoroughly researched, story of his life and career.
I really like Robert Harris in general, Fatherland being my favorite (shame about the terrible movie adaptation!), and the Cicero Trilogy being fantastic. But for some reason Pompeii didn't do it for me :( It's OK, it's by no means bad, but it left me unsatisfied.
