A Swim in a Pond in the Rain

George Saunders' recent book "A Swim in a Pond in the Rain" is great: he goes through four classic Russian short stories and dissects how they work. He also has a Substack where he does the same for other stories, in addition to answering misc questions.
强烈推荐乔治·桑德斯（George Saunders）的《雨中池塘沐浴记：四位俄国大师的写作、阅读与人生课》（A Swim in a Pond in the Rain: In which Four Russians Give a Master Class on Writing, Reading, and Life）[1]。
George Saunders' A Swim in a Pond in the Rain: In which Four Russians Give a Master Class on Writing, Reading, and Life[1] is highly recommended. I thought I had a good idea of how to read a short story before reading this book. I was wrong. Saunders…
强烈推荐大家读读他的毕业典礼演讲，更强烈推荐去读读《雨中池塘沐浴记》（A Swim in a Pond in the Rain）。
George Saunders is funny. I highly recommend reading his commencement speech and I REALLY highly recommend reading A Swim in a Pond in the Rain. The latter because Russian literature is amazing.
第二次突破来自读了乔治·桑德斯（George Saunders）的《雨中池塘沐浴记》（A Swim in a Pond in the Rain）。
…tackle, etc, etc, etc. was a cognitive nightmare. There had to be a way to grapple with all of the constraints in a more systematic way. The second breakthrough came from reading George Saunders' "A Swim in a Pond in the Rain." He describes writing not as executing a perfect plan, but as making a move and then reacting to it - each sentence creating constraints that shape what comes next. I realized this was exactly how I…
……比如《伊凡·杰尼索维奇的一天》（One Day in the Life of Ivan Denisovich）。 《雨中池塘沐浴记》（A Swim in a Pond in the Rain，George Saunders 著）则是那种我一开始对其主题知之甚少，但完全被作者的文采和热情所感染的体验。
…as One Day in the Life of Ivan Denisovich. Shadow Divers (Robert Kurson) is a true-life story about divers discovering and exploring a remarkable wreck. Read this by accident, turned out awesome. A Swim in a Pond in the Rain (George Saunders) was one of those times where I knew little about a topic going in but got swept up by the author’s eloquence and enthusiasm. I rediscovered Michael Moorcock’s Elric series thanks to…
