An ocean as imagined by Jules Verne in Journey to the Centre of the Earth. A splendid bit of early fantasy fiction. I recommend 'Lost' - the chapter where the narrator gets separated from his Uncle in caverns 70 miles underground.
…fosses, Gulfoss is pretty cool. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gullfoss Images: https://www.google.co.in/searchq=gullfoss&tbm=isch Often when I read about Iceland, it reminds me of the Jules Verne novel "Journey to the Centre of the Earth", which I read as a kid. Good novel.
…his books are so approachable for youth (especially in some translations). He paints such a beautiful picture of a world waiting to be explored, ripe for the taking. (Personally however, I would rank Journey to the Centre of the Earth above 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea.)
Ah, Verne. Brings back childhood memories. I consumed the entire Verne that was in my primary school library, maybe 15 novels in total. "The Mysterious Island" and "Journey to the Centre of the Earth" were one of the first books I read in English translations (my mother tongue is Polish), around the age of 13. Good times.
I decided to become an engineer after reading the mysterious island. Although I was somewhat older, probably 10-12. Journey to the centre of the earth was actually the first book that I read when I was probably 7, and I really enjoyed it.
The irony is that one of Jules Verne's best known works is a physically-impossible Journey to the Centre of the Earth, whilst one of Wells' best known works conceives tactical nuclear weapons, radioactive waste on battlefields and MUAD before the structure of the atom was properly understood, and once the neutron was…
