Matt Taibbi's forthcoming book Hate Inc is very good on this. I wonder whether the corrosive effective of this is an element in the mass depression claimed by the Economist. …the media for this. And I don’t just mean during this pandemic, but for the past couple decades (and especially from 2015 onward.) Dividing the audience is good for business. I really enjoyed the book Hate Inc by Matt Taibbi that examines this phenomenon.
You’re responding to the narrative the media is pushing down your throat. My advice? Read less news and work on something positive. Be the change you want to see. I recommend the book Hate Inc by Matt Taibbi for a nice exploration of how the media profits from dividing us. Also, obligatory Aaron Swartz: http://www.aaronsw.com/weblog/hatethenews

As a starting point I would recommend reading Matt Taibbi’s Hate Inc and subscribing to Glenn Greenwald’s substack. They’re two of the only left-of-center commentators who have not lost their integrity over the past five years, and their ideas are worth listening to.
> Matt Taibbi (and others) compare it to Pro Wrestling. Kayfabe. And yeah, Hate Inc, was such a good book, I listened to it 3 times in 2 years and it's scary how closely this resembles most of the political theater that takes place around the World. It's not just the US, though its…
