…not sure how readable Solzhenytsin is in English, but his Russian is atrocious (he was also obviously not a nice person). For sheer horror of life in worker's paradise, I think Varlam Shalamov's [0] Kolyma stories are much better written. [0] https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Varlam_Shalamov
