I recently finished Rocket Men by Robert Kurson, about Apollo 8. That was great. But the ultimate book on Apollo for me is still Chaikin's 'Man on the Moon' which details all of the Apollo missions from interviews with the astronauts…
Rocket Men by Robert Kurson tells the Apollo 8 story in a captivating manner. Some of the passages are quite dramatic but it's justified given the litany of firsts accomplished by the mission.
I read this book, https://www.amazon.com/Rocket-Men-Odyssey-Astronauts-Journey... and Apollo 8's accomplishments were way under-rated.
in addition to Bad Blood and Shoe Dog that were mentioned numerous times already I would add "Rocket Men" by Robert Kurston. The story of Apollo 8. I'm not a space geek but the story is very interesting and well written. Audible book is very good.
…one was nobody thought to put a door handle on the outside of the LEM. This meant that if Armstrong or Aldrin reflexively closed the door on their way out, there was no way back in. I've been reading "Rocket Men" by Nelson.
