为什么要说“替代”？这两本看起来完全风马牛不相及。《Hunt for Vulcan》是一堂有趣的历史课，对人性带有一些挺有意思的洞察。它是科学史，而不是科学本身。读完大概花了3个小时，我读得很开心。
Why "instead" ? they seem completely different from each other Hunt for Vulcan is a fun history lesson with some interesting insights about human nature. It's history of science, not science. It took about 3 hours to read and I had a lot of fun with it.

…Cryptography book recommendation to read with our 10 year old who loves making up his own ciphers. He loves reading adult math and science books with us at breakfast like Ignition!, Humble Pi, and The Hunt for Vulcan. All of the kids books that we've found are just puzzles, but I don't want to get something way over his head math-wise. A good history with basic theory behind the different types would be perfect. Thanks!
