…list of length 1, the only entry would be Hyperion by Dan Simmons. It's the Canterbury Tales in space, but the thing they're pilgrimaging towards is a nightmarish god of death. http://www.amazon.com/Hyperion-Cantos-Dan-Simmons/dp/0553283...
https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hyperion_Cantos
I am just finishing reading the Hyperion Cantos which is an absolutely inspired masterwork by Dan Simmons. I can’t stand rereading / rewatching anything, this series is so rich that it feels like reading fresh material all over again. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hyperion_Cantos
…Best fantasy in terms of most imaginative and full of wonder: The Neverending Story by Michael Ende. (I know, everyone saw the crappy movie; it simply does not do the book justice.) Best Scifi: The Hyperion Cantos by Dan Simmons
http://www.amazon.com/Hyperion-Cantos-Dan-Simmons/dp/0553283...

Haven't read Gene Wolfe (yet), but I can strongly recommend 'Hyperion Cantos' by Dan Simmons.

Makes me want to re-read Simmons' Hyperion Cantos, which had great intertextuality with Keats & one of the main characters was a "Keats" AI.
