…growing up, I read anything and everything I could get my hands on. I was equally interested in books about boys, girls, black people, white people, you name it. I read Goosebumps with equal interest as The Babysitters' Club. Having such a wide variety of topics that I read (and consumed in other media) made me a better, more well rounded person. Heck, there was a whole series of kids books, The Babysitters Club, about kids who were just 12-13. Is it no longer normal to leave younger children in the care of older children when parents go out? Even beyond whether a pre-teen should be fine walking to and from…
Also the Dawnzer lee light. I immigrated to the US at age 5, and I learned English through a combination of Beverly Clearly books (and Babysitters Club despite being male) and PBS channels.
