…anything that grabs your attention. Not all of these are to my taste, but they have been broadly popular: The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy (1979), The Da Vinci Code (2003), The Big Sleep (1939), The Color out of Space (1927) (short), The Hunt for Red October (1984), Hondo (1953), Get Shorty (1990).
His short story The Color Out of Space has an amazingly accurate depiction of the effect of nuclear fallout on the land. People in it go crazy and shun the valley, but I think it's a good way to see what he would have thought about that development.
Yes! I think you're right. That's a great connection, never thought of Annihilation in that way. "Color out of Space" is the first HPL story I ever read, and still one of my favorites.
This reminds me of horror fiction like Lovecraft's Color Out of Space[1] and Neill Blomkamp's short Zygote (2017)[2][3] [1] https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Colour_Out_of_Space [2] https://www.imdb.com/pt/title/tt7078780/ [3] https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pKWB-MVJ4sQ

I'm reminded of Lovecraft's 'the color out of space'. It's fascinating to try and imagine what that's like.
