Pride and Prejudice and Zombies

Hacker News

…written in English, but this whole debate is absurd. It's art. Let artists create art. People who will enjoy it will enjoy it, those who won't won't. I don't expect every Jane Austen fan to enjoy "Pride and Prejudice and Zombies" or Doris Kearns Goodwin to appreciate "Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter" (actually, I bet she loves it), but so what? The source material is public domain, so let's enjoy the beauty of the commons.

(http://www.amazon.com/dp/1594743347/ref=asc_df_1594743347184...)

…it's not necessary and at the extremes it's clearly harmful. Just think of how many great movies would not have been produced if if Shakespeare's plays where still under protected. You don't get to see Pride and Prejudice and Zombies in a world of unlimited copy-write. (http://www.amazon.com/dp/1594743347/ref=asc_df_1594743347184...) PS: I think a 5 year copy-write length for movies, TV shows and video games is a perfectly acceptable,…

Pride and Prejudice and Zombies is certainly entertaining, and I’m happy that some people enjoyed coming up with it and others enjoyed watching or reading it, but if it replaced Pride and Prejudice, the world would be worse off.

  • 像《傲慢与偏见与僵尸,作者:简·奥斯汀、赛斯·葛雷恩·史密斯》(Pride and Prejudice and Zombies, by Jane Austen and Seth Grahame-Smith)这种形式大概就够了。

Something like, "Pride and Prejudice and Zombies, by Jane Austen and Seth Grahame-Smith" is probably sufficient.

Popular works regularly mine the (public domain) past. Disney animated movies like Cinderella did so. Seth Grahame-Smith did so with Pride and Prejudice and Zombies. and so on. That is literally the benefit of copyright expiration, that other people can utilize and transform a published work.

  • > 《傲慢与偏见与僵尸》(Pride and Prejudice and Zombies)我买了这本。

    > Pride and Prejudice and Zombies I own this. It is so delightfully well executed that I cannot help but be impressed. And yet it is somewhat appalling in that I cannot bring myself to read more than a few chapters. Just as the settings…
