虽然在他一众神作中容易被忽视，但我真的很喜欢《海盗之自由》（Pirate Freedom）。一个来自近未来的人发现自己被传回了海盗的黄金时代，而沃尔夫在结尾把各个情节线收束得堪称鬼斧神工。
It gets lost in his other excellent books, but I really liked Pirate Freedom. A guy from the near future finds himself sent back in time to the golden age of piracy, and Wolfe does a masterful job of tying the plot threads together at the end.

…taste about what's in store without so much commitment. Besides those I also strongly remember these works: - The Wizard Knight: straight-up fantasy but quite philosophical like sci-fi should be - Pirate Freedom: an interesting "historic" view of pirate life
把沃尔夫的作品拍成电影很难拍出精髓吧？也许像《海盗之自由》或者《地狱犬的第五个脑袋》这种独立篇章的作品还行，但“太阳神周期”里的每一部设定都错综复杂到了离谱的境地，彼此环环相扣，改成电影难免要大动干戈惨遭狂删。
It would be difficult to do Wolfe justice in a film? Maybe something self-contained like Pirate Freedom or The Fifth Head of Cerberus, but everything in the "Solar Cycle" has such bizarre complications and connections to everything else that a movie couldn't avoid making many cruel cuts.
……晚期作品的那些选材和关注点，比如把遥远星球上角色的说话方式写成20世纪的民族刻板印象（《短日之书》），或者像老头子一样对现代社会碎碎念（《海盗之自由》）。作为一个通过早期作品入坑、随后把他写过的所有东西都疯狂读了个遍的人来说，那种逐渐滋生的失望感简直让人崩溃。
…choices and concerns of the late books, like putting the speech of characters on a distant planet into 20th-century ethnic stereotypes (The Book of the Short Sun) or old-man rants about modern society (Pirate Freedom). As someone who got into Wolfe through the early books and then voraciously read everything he wrote after that, the gradual disappointment was crushing.
